We welcome Ben back to his home town as Part-time Rector of Christ Episcopal Church. Ben’s major goal is to develop a mutual ministry with the people of Christ Church to continue to build a loving, caring church that will invite others to join them in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with the world and help build the Kingdom of God on Earth as it is in Heaven.
The Reverend Ben Alford was born and grew up as a Methodist in Albertville, Alabama. He attended the University of the South at Sewanee, Tennessee where he found and fell in love with the Episcopal Church and earned a degree in Forestry. After working several months as a “Live Hanger” at Wayne Poultry, Ben served in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic, teaching at the National Forestry School and later spent ten years as a Professional with The Boy Scouts of America. He married Lynn Dugan on April 1, 1972 and they have one son, Seth, born in 1979. Seth is General Manager of Zoe’s Kitchen restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Ben attended seminary at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in Evanston Illinois, graduating in 1987. He served churches in New Orleans, Louisiana and Beaumont, Texas before moving to Wetumpka, Alabama to serve as Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church for four and a half years before retiring at the end of March of 2011.
Since his retirement Ben has served as Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Carlowville, Alabama.
